Becoming the first city incorporated in Indian Territory on January 4th 1896, Wagoner is a city located within Wagoner County, Oklahoma. The town was named after a local railroad dispatcher Henry "Big Foot" Wagoner, who reported needing a railroad switch nearby to accommodate shipments of hay and logs to the area. The switch had been previously named "Wagoner's Switch." The switch soon relocated to the town and spurned the growth and developmentof a major cattle shipping business.
