THE TOWN OF ARCADIA
A small town with history and charm
Arcadia is a small town with a rich history and notable charm! Located on the historic Route 66, Arcadia is home to scenic views and fun stops for those traveling the Mother Road. As the Oklahoma Metro grows, more and more homes are being built in the township offering those looking for the charm of small-town life with access to big-city amenities the perfect place to call home.
Arcadia is quickly becoming a destination for those who want to live on the edge of the Oklahoma City Metro while maintaining ease of access. Though the average home price is listed at just under $85,000 by AreaVibes.com, the lack of development has created a new home construction of $250,000 and above. With large lots and low cost of living, this is the perfect escape from the daily grind of the city.
In 1898, William and Myra Odor built the "Old Round Barn" along what would eventually become Route 66. A one of a kind design, the truly round barn is an architectural feat, attracts visitors from across the country to admire the craftsmanship. A second popular Arcadia destination is Pops! An architectural wonder of its own, this modern designed structure is a gas station, old school burger joint, and soda pop wonder all in one. Boasting over 600 unique sodas from around the globe, Pops! is the highlight of many trips down Arcadia's stretch of the Mother Road.
Arcadia, Oklahoma was given a post office by the federal government in 1890 and was a thriving agricultural community with cotton as the primary cash crop. In 1924 the town suffered an overwhelming loss, as a fire destroyed all the buildings on the east side of Main Street, many of which were never replaced. Disaster again struct in 1974 when a deluge of rain washed out many of the area roads and bridges. The loss to the railroad infrastructure was so great that the trains stopped running to Arcadia altogether. However, the small community has persisted, and in 1987 was officially recognized by the State of Oklahoma as an incorporated town.
